Hockey Hut cuts the ribbon for a new outdoor rink

CLIFTON PARK, NY (NEWS10) – Clifton Park Hockey Hut officially opened its new outdoor skating pavilion on Saturday morning. While sub-freezing temperatures keep the ice in pristine condition through winter, the decades-old company says the space will provide year-round excitement.

Hockey Hut owner Ron Kuhl explains that the pavilion aims to bring pond hockey to the Capital Region: “You know, when we were kids, we used to go out, shovel the pond and play outside in the open air. We are very excited about this.

The company has been part of the community since 1997, coaching children of all ages and abilities. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Hockey Hut continued to experience success, including its new expansion.

“The community support has been amazing. The youth hockey community has rallied behind Hockey Hut over the past few years,” Kuhl said.

He says the pavilion will provide an exciting opportunity for children and other members of the community to play the sport they love. “I really want to make a difference in the lives of children. It’s clear that over the past few years, if there’s been that moment to make a difference in the lives of children and families, it’s here at Hockey Hut.

A feeling shared by those who walked on the new ice for the first time on Saturday: “It’s just quite fun. The point of the game is to have fun, play with friends and learn new tricks,” said Hunter Caruso.

When the weather warms up and the ice melts, the pavilion will be used for a variety of different sports, including pickleball, in-line skating and street hockey.
