Ice skating comes to New Albany with Jingle Fest

A synthetic indoor ice rink in New Albany will be open for vacation enjoyment in a new two-day festival this weekend.

Jingle Fest, which will take place inside Silver Street Park at 2043 Silver St., will welcome ice skaters and winter fun seekers from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, December 10; and from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday 11 December.

Skating costs $ 5 per person and the organizers recommend reserving a 45-minute time slot in advance (by calling 812-949-5448 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for a maximum of 3 skaters per group. Skates will be available for hire, but you can also bring your own.

Time slots without an appointment will also be available; see the event’s Facebook page for more rules and details.

In addition, there will also be a different winter “celebrity” that will pop up every day: Friday, Santa Claus (6 p.m.– 8 p.m.); and on Saturday, Elsa from “Frozen” (2 p.m. – 5 p.m.)

(If you or your kids want to make sure Santa gets your Christmas gift requests, be sure to drop a letter in Santa’s mailbox at Silver Street Park before you go. All letters with addresses back will receive a response!)

Beyond that, expect “music, crafts, and other fun activities” every day. The event page even says you’ll have the chance to virtually ride inside Santa’s sleigh!
