Ice skating comes to Newark Winter Village
This year, Newark rounded off its successful outdoor winter festival by adding an ice rink. Newark Winter Village is located across from the Prudential Center in Mulberry Commons Park. In addition to ice skating, food is available for purchase with the free hot chocolate available. There is also a Holiday Market in the Ironside Newark building across the street and in the park there are games like curling.
Heated private pods or igloos are available for hire for two-hour blocks. Reservations are required for skating and rental of cradles and igloos and can be viewed online here. Newark residents receive a discount on all of their rentals.
Newark Recreation Director Obalaji Baraka says, âLocal residents don’t have to go to Rockefeller Center or Bryant Park to ice skate. People can come get free cocoa and stay in Newark.
Quatisha Bronson says the festival is a beautiful event and that it is “a fun and awesome way to celebrate all the positive things that are happening in the city”.
