MGM Springfield to host annual tree-lighting ceremony and open outdoor skating rink


On Friday, MGM Springfield will host its annual tree-lighting ceremony, marking the opening of its Holiday Winter Wonderland in Armory Square and its outdoor rink.

The casino has invited guests to join in the celebration at 6 p.m. on November 26. The event will feature “magical surprises,” including a pinch of snow and special appearances from the Dan Kane Singers, New England Patriots Cheerleaders and Santa Claus, MGM said in a press release. Release. It will be led by MGM Resorts Northeast Group President and COO, Chris Kelley, and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.

A hot chocolate bar and adult drinks will be available, along with a special take-out menu from TAP Sports Bar, the casino said. Hot Oven Cookies will have an on-site food truck with fresh treats.

The MGM Springfield Ice Rink will also open on Friday, offering recreation for the city until January 2. Tickets for the experience can be purchased in person.

The hours of the ice rink are:

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday: Closed
  • Wednesday: 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Thursday: 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Friday: 1 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Saturday: 1 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Sunday: 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.

On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, the ice rink will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Additionally, throughout the holiday season, a coordinated tree light and music show will be performed hourly from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week, from Nov. 26 to Jan. 2, MGM said.
