Public skating returns to Kelowna next week

Public skating returns this week to Rutland Arena, Memorial Arena and the Capital News Center.

Starting Tuesday, October 12, Kelowna residents can visit one of the three rinks for family fun.

To reserve a time to skate and to see the schedule, you can visit this link.

Fees (taxes included) for public skating include:

  • $ 3 for children five and under, parent + tot skate and seniors (65+)

  • $ 4 for children 6 to 13 years old

  • $ 4.75 for general admission

  • $ 12.50 for a family skating pass (maximum of five people)

  • A 10-visit punch card can be purchased for $ 37 and a 20 card costs $ 70

Login is required and masks are mandatory when entering any of the three arenas and when lacing.

<p dir=Masks are recommended but they are not mandatory on the ice because each arena will follow public health orders.

These orders state that for indoor events with fewer than 50 people, proof of vaccination is not required, but contact tracing information is required.

The City explains that proof of vaccination will be required during special events such as the Family Holiday Skate event.

Visitors remember a certain skating etiquette:

  • Circle skating only, no aggressive skating or hockey

  • Ice skates only, no boots, but wheelchairs and strollers are allowed (helmet highly recommended)

  • No food or drink on the ice

  • No sleds or chairs, but EZ bars are available for new skaters and children

More information on skating etiquette, COVID-19 guidelines, free skating days, where to find skate rentals and any future cancellations can be found at the City of Kelowna website link.
