Quebec City to Host First-Ever Joint National Short Track and Long Track Championships

The new Intact Insurance Ice Center will welcome Canada’s best short and long track skaters in October

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC – The state-of-the-art Intact Assurance Ice Center in Quebec City will have the unique distinction of hosting the first-ever Canadian Short Track Championships and Canadian Long Track Championships this fall.

With recent adjustments to the international competition schedule, the dates and locations originally planned for these Canadian Championships were no longer feasible. This was an opportunity to host both competitions at the new Intact Insurance Ice Center on the same weekend, allowing both disciplines of the sport to be honored at the same time.

  • Canadian Long Track Championships: October 13-16, 2022
  • Canadian Short Track Championships: October 14-16, 2022

Canada’s top short and long track speed skaters – including dozens of Olympians in both disciplines – will compete in this historic joint competition, which will bring together the highest caliber of each discipline in a venue with a tremendous skating history. of speed.

The competition will allow local hero Laurent Dubreuil (Lévis, QC) and his Quebec teammates – who usually travel to Calgary each year for the Canadian Long Track Championships presented by Intact Insurance – to compete in the presence of family and friends. for the first time.

It will also be the first time in recent memory that the Canadian Short Track Championships presented by Intact Insurance will be held outside of Montreal, giving a whole new audience the opportunity to see Olympic medalists such as Steven Dubois (Lachenaie, Que. ) and Kim Boutin (Sherbrooke, Qc) takes part in the fast action.

Speed ​​Skating Canada is currently working with event hosts to finalize the remainder of the domestic competition schedule for the 2022-23 season. Details will be communicated once the information is finalized.
