‘Roller Jam’ Skates Into DTLA With Throwback Themes – NBC Los Angeles

  • FIGat7th
  • July 15, 16 and 17
  • $12 roller skate admission (includes skate rental); free admission for spectators

Showing off your skate moves at a vibrant, fun, kitsch and cool theme party is something of a cherished tradition in Southern California.

Certainly, some of these themed gatherings have taken place at our region’s limited-time rinks, those wintry fantasies that crop up, for a few weeks, around the holidays.

But lively vintage dress-up events can also elegantly rule a summer-style soiree, one that involves wheels rather than ice blades.

And the throwback spirit will be strong as Roller Jam lays its glittering bumpers on FIGat7th for three joy-filled July days and nights.

The weekend fantasy, which runs from July 15-17, kicks off the very Friday with a day of 80s and 90s favourites. Disco will dazzle skaters on Saturday, and the 2000s?

You nothing to get excited about it: the great tunes of this divine decade will be honored on Sunday.

It’s $12 and skate rental is included. Spectator? It’s free and no reservation is necessary.

Beneficiaries of the pop-up include the Social Justice Learning Institute, the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the Downtown Women’s Center.

There will also be a Crowns & Hops beer garden, starting at 4am each day. The black-owned brewery will pour its sublime foam, with IPAs, pilsners and other craft classics on the menu.

Keep in mind that themed events will start in the evening, although the rink will open earlier each day.
