Skate in Coventry this winter – Coventry City Council

Strap on your skates and get ready to glide through the magical world of winter wonderland in the heart of Coventry city centre.

From Friday November 25 to Sunday January 8, Broadgate will be home to a festive ice rink and Winter Wonderland for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

Coventry City Council is partnering with Visit Coventry and the Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) to bring a festive experience to the city centre. In addition to the skating rink, there will be festive food stalls, Christmas music and a unique backdrop with a light curtain to add to the festive atmosphere.

Councilor Abdul Salam Khan, Cabinet Member for Events at Coventry City Council, said: “We are delighted to announce that we are offering a festive themed ice skating experience for residents and visitors to Coventry city center as part of the festive celebrations this winter.

“The ice rink experience builds on the legacy of the previous two years while we were Britain’s City of Culture 2021 and will be a key attraction as part of the city centre’s larger Winter Wonderland offering.

“Come join us for a unique ice skating experience and soak up the festive spirit of Coventry where there is something for the whole family.”

The winter holiday season is always a key time for downtown merchants and the promotion of the rink and the wider Winter Wonderland aims to increase attendance and encourage locals to support their downtown.

Councilor Patricia Hetherton, a member of the Municipal Services Cabinet, added: “We appreciate that everyone is currently living with challenges related to the cost of living and the ripple effects this can have on merchants and businesses as well as residents.

“Therefore, it is important that we continue to actively promote our downtown area and what it has to offer, whether that means spending time shopping, sampling the many dining options or enjoy events such as the festive ice rink.

“The holiday season always brings a special atmosphere and I’m sure with this exciting addition to the city’s calendar of events, it will be a very special time this year.”

The festive ice rink experience is provided by Coventry City Council, who are working closely with the Coventry BID and the city’s Visit Coventry team to provide additional attractions for the winter festive period.

Joanne Glover, Director, Coventry BID, said: “The Coventry Business Improvement District is delighted to be working with our partners to bring the ice rink and festive food market to the heart of the city centre. We believe our downtown Christmas offering is the best yet and will bring the footfall we need to our downtown and businesses throughout the holiday season. »

Making Coventry a major destination this winter is also an important part of the partnership because Paul Jones, Managing Director of Visit Coventry, added:

“Skate into Coventry will be the jewel in our Coventry Winter Wonderland crown, and with so much to see and do over the festive period, the town will have a visitor to rival its neighbors near and far. At Visit Coventry we are proud of the role we play in creating a festive experience that will attract visitors from across the region and beyond, providing a much-needed boost to our hotels and tourist attractions, as well as retail and hospitality businesses.”

The rink will be open seven days a week, all day and evening, and closed only on Christmas Day. Prices start from £6.95 for Go CV Plus cardholders and £10 for those without a card.
