If you’re inclined to pull off a few moves on the dance floor, why not see if they translate to the ice?
Discotheque and Bollywood-themed skating sessions hold this Ballarat winter festival at the pop-up rink between Myer and City Hall.
The Bollywood on Ice party will see DJ Bobby M play a range of fun and danceable tunes on Saturday July 16 between 7:30-8:30 p.m., and 9-10 p.m.
Disco hour will run from 9-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, until the rink closes for 2022 on Sunday, July 17.
A local member of the Punjabi community, MK Brar, said the fun and flair of Bollywood is something people of all ages can enjoy at the rink, while connecting with their culture and people.
“We love music. It has a good rhythm that gives you a good feeling when you catch it,” she said.
“People in our community are very friendly. We are happy to involve everyone and always try to make them feel comfortable, no matter what community they are from.
“We want people to come and engage with us, we love that.”
A City of Ballarat Cr Samantha McIntosh said the Winter Fest program is full of fun family activities to warm the soul.
“It’s been a chilly start to winter, and this iconic Ballarat festival gives everyone the perfect excuse to wrap up, get out, support local businesses and enjoy some fantastic entertainment and local hospitality,” he said. she stated.
Child-friendly ice skating sessions from 9-10 a.m. each weekday are recommended for children under 12 and their families, while sensory sessions on Thursdays from 9-10 a.m. have no music or flashing lights, and fewer people on the ice.
More than 1,500 people tried ice skating during the first weekend of this year’s Winter Festival, while more than 18,000 enjoyed the rink during its opening in 2021.
