Steinberg ice rink reopens in Forest Park

ST. LOUIS – The Steinberg Ice Rink reopened, but it was a challenge due to the hot start of the work week.

Temperatures in the 70s on Tuesday made it difficult to prepare the rink for opening day Friday. Fortunately, colder temperatures came along with barely time to get things to a place where they could open for skating.

“With the warm temperatures at the start of the week, it was very difficult to try to run all the coolers and keep the ice cold, the slab cold. Our team spent the night here the last two, three nights. To achieve this. To be able to open on time as we had hoped, ”said Louis Lombardo, regional director of Rink Management Services.

The opening day started off strong with around 50 customers in the first hour or so. And the crowds will be there for the weekend with 100 skaters already registered to skate for Friday night.

This year there is a brand new attraction, the bumper cars. Anyone over the age of 10 and over 48 inches tall can participate solo. For the youngest, they can sit on the lap of an adult.

“We just opened the bumper cars. We just had a family of two who were there having a blast, ”Lombardo said. “You just have to go out there and wield the joystick and push it and hit each other. Get out of the energy.

Ardith Flores and her daughters Olivia and Alexi were visiting St. Louis from overseas.

“So that was one of the things she wanted to do was go ice skating. And luckily they had bumper cars so it was something new for us to try,” said Ardith.

The girls seem to be having a lot of fun!

This year, you can reserve your bumper car and your skating time slots online. To book your time slot, visit
