Suzanne Schulting, the best short track speed skater, will miss the world championships (COVID)
Dutch short track speed skater Suzanne Schultingwho won individual gold, silver and bronze at the Olympics, will miss the world championships which begin on Friday after testing positive for COVID-19.
“Mentally I’m broken,” was posted on social media by Schulting, who swept all five events at Worlds 2021. “It’s and was a long season. I recharged and felt so ready to defend my 5 titles. I did everything to stay negative, but unfortunately it didn’t work.
Schulting was to be one of the worlds biggest stars in Montreal (streamed live on Peacock). south korean Choi Min Jeong and Hungarian Shaoang Liu are the other individual Olympic Games gold medalists who are entered.
China did not send any skaters to the world championships, as it did for the world figure skating championships last month. Other stars passing the event include Best American, Kristen SantosItalian Arianna Fontana and South Korean Hwang Dae-heon.
The American squad is led by the two-time Olympian Maame Bineylooking to become the first American to win a world medal since JR Celsky in 2014.
Canadian Charles Hamelinmedalist at the last five Olympic Games, is expected to retire after competing in world championships on home soil.
