The Duluth Amateur Hockey Association hosts an open skating program and free equipment until the launch season

Organizers hope this will help remove obstacles for children who want to get on the ice and play.

DULUTH, Minn.- Some young hockey players got to skate with the best of them – some UMD Bulldogs, as they helped kick off the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association season at Duluth Heritage Sports Center.

New and returning families enjoyed free skating with members of the UMD Male and Female Bulldogs hockey teams.

Over the past week, the hockey association also collected donations of used equipment, skates and more, available for free at the event.

Organizers hope this will help remove obstacles for children who want to get on the ice and play.

“It’s a great way to break down some of those barriers of seeing people face to face,” said Bailey Olson, director of marketing and communications for the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association.

“Hockey can be as expensive as you want or as cheaper as you want, which is why we have equipment here and people can ask about registration,” she said. .

Registration with one of the 11 organizations of the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association officially ends on December 31st, but to prepare the teams, they hope people sign up as soon as possible.
