Tony Hawk sings on stage with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater cover band
I didn’t know there was a cover band specializing in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtracks. I’m pretty happy today to know such a thing exists, but even happier to know that they blew up a show over the weekend because the man himself was there and joined them on stage for a few pieces.
The 900—named after a skating move possible both in-game but also very rarely in real life-is a band from the UK who call themselves the country’s “first and only Tony Hawk Pro Skater cover band”. Which means they only play songs from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtracks.
That’s a lot of material to cover! And while they don’t play the full spectrum of musical genres available on the show – being a band they seem to only cover rock/metal/punk stuff, and I can’t find any video of them playing any of the series ‘ rap pieces—what else is there a fantastic sample of one of the most important and beloved collections of video game music all time. If the song contains guitars and was on a THPS soundtrack, whether it’s Rage Against the Machine, CKY, Refused or Fu Manchu, they’ll play it.
Anyway, the 900 were playing a gig in Haggerston, London, this weekend, and after playing a few tunes, they were joined on stage by… well, by Tony Hawk himself, who, as he seems to be doing more and more in his post-professional skating career fortunately is settle into a Bill Murray lifestyle.
This is the first shared footage from the event, which exploded on Twitter over the weekend:
The band itself, however, shot more professional footage and started sharing it too:
It’s impossible not to love everything about it, from the looks on the band’s faces to the fact that Hawk absolutely nails it, like he’s spent his life dreaming of the chance to get on stage and sing tunes like this one.
If you want to see more stuff from the band, they’ve put it all up on YouTube, but it’s only watchable on Youtube so you will have to go there to check it out.
