Warsaw Cup 2022 – Poland – International Figure Skating
The penultimate event of the 2022 Challenger Series will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from November 17-20. All four disciplines will be contested and participation is free for all spectators.
A total of 55 singles skaters, 14 couples and 11 ice dance teams will have long days of competition.
Italian Daniel Grassl, winner of the MK John Wilson Trophy last weekend, is headlining the men’s competition. This will be France’s first international of the season Kévin Aymoz after he was forced to withdraw from both Grand Prix assignments due to an injury he suffered at the French Masters in early October.
The women’s event is wide open with Poland’s Ekaterina Kurakova and Germany’s Nicole Schott in the lead.
Top picks for the podium in the pairs event would be Australia’s Anastasia Golubeva and Hektor Giatopolous Moore, the highest-ranked team on the junior circuit this season, and Rebecca Ghilardi and Filippo Ambrosini of Italy, who won their first event Challenger Series in Lake Placid and finished fourth at the French Grand Prix.
In ice dancing, the battle for gold is likely to be between French team Voice Demougeot and Theo Le Mercier, fourth at the French Grand Prix, and Jennifer Janse Van Rensburg and Benjamin Steffan of Germany who finished second at the Memorial Dennis Ten 2022 .
This competition overlaps with the NHK Trophy Grand Prix (link below).
